How these Cryptoquip hints work
Hint 1 tells you what the sentence is about without using its words. Hint 2 gives three more letter pairs on top of the printed clue — the most common letters in that day's puzzle, so they fill in a lot. Hint 3 shows the whole sentence with only the pun blanked out, so you can still get the joke yourself. Then the answer, with the wordplay explained.

Questions
What is the Cryptoquip?
A daily newspaper puzzle from King Features: a short, punny sentence written in a simple substitution cipher, where every letter stands for a different one. Each day's puzzle prints one clue, such as K = O, to get you started.
How does the clue letter work?
The clue tells you one cipher letter and the letter it stands for. That substitution holds for the whole puzzle — every K is an O — and no letter ever stands for itself. The code changes every day.
How do you check these answers?
Each answer is matched by two answer sites, then run through our own checker against that day's coded puzzle: the word lengths must line up, every cipher letter must map to one plain letter, and the printed clue must hold. If a day doesn't pass, it isn't posted.
Why don't you show the coded puzzle?
The puzzle belongs to the newspaper and its syndicate, so we don't reprint it. Paste it from your own paper into the decoder above and the clue, letter checks and reveals all work on it.
When is today's Cryptoquip answer posted?
Usually early in the morning US Eastern time, once the day's answer has been checked. If today's isn't up yet, the most recent one is shown and the page says so.
